Summertime
I love summer. When I became an adult it was a shock not to have time off in the summer; it seemed criminal that I could not laze around and hide from the heat. I love summer with my kids: no agenda, no timetables, no alarm clocks. I am definitely not ready for it to end. I am avoiding the school supply sections in the stores. We have one month left of freedom and I intend to soak up every second with my kids because I will truly miss their company when school starts. So here's to summertime!

Don't let their sweet faces deceive you.....
Jack & Elise
These two sweet children are my nephew & niece. I am truly surprised that they survived the day yesterday. I think it began when Jack peed in the potty chair; Jack is potty trained and does not need the potty chair. In fact he was told to leave it alone. However he could not resist the temptation and did the deed. Elise, thinking that she was being helpful, took the cup out of the potty chair, carried it to her brother's room and dumped the contents onto his carpet. I give my sister credit, because at this point they would have been history. But no, she spanked said children and cleaned up urine. To further test her patience, the children did not like their dinner. To show their displeasure, they spit the food out of their mouths and onto the table. Needless to say, they were put to bed without dinner or a bath. My sister truly demonstrated extreme patience and control by not killing them. It is days like this that make it laughable when people comment on how easy it must be to be a stay at home Mom. It is rewarding to be with your children all day, but it is also tests every aspect of your character. Some days these little people are out to get us and some days they win. I congratulate my sister on winning yesterday, because in the end they went to bed hungry and she got some well deserved alone time!

1st Library Card
Today Ethan signed up for his own library card. He told me, "Having a library card is so awesome! We are able to read about so many different things!". That is so cool. You read to them, but you are never really sure that they will want to read for themselves. Ethan has really taken off with reading; I even caught him reading in bed when they were supposed to be sleeping! I couldn't really be that mad considering that I did (okay do) the same thing. I have a David Sedaris book calling my name tonight!
On the other hand, Rhys was sorely disappointed that he was not old enough for his own card. Never fear, he did not dwell on it for very long. On the ride home he told me, "I have been having this recipe in my mind for some time now. What if we made chocolate cupcakes and put pink icing on it with sprinkles?". Aaahh Rhys......

I Can't Get Respect
Take pity on Joon "the Dog" Forbes. She is the first child, but she doesn't get respect. One would think that with a face this pretty, she would have complete run of the house. She should be allowed to eat right out of the bag whenever she wants. She should be able to lay on the couch whenever she wants. Her big, loud, and hairless puppies should let her go in and out of the back door at her pleasure. But no. She has to do tricks.

Stupid tricks.

Joon just doesn't get respect.
