Quotes

"Mom can we go back to our regular toilet paper, because this new stuff is unreliable." ~ Rhys

"But Mom Lucy does do some retarded stuff like ripping all the toilet paper off the roll, and so do me & Rhys." ~ Ethan
I tried to explain how the word retarded can be hurtful, and that we definitely never call someone a retard. I had to laugh because in this statement it is clear that he doesn't see any differences in Lucy, she is just like the rest of us. Of course we had to have further discourse on the word! :)

"Oh Lord!!" ~ Kelley upon walking into Lucy's room after naptime to discover that Lucy had a diaper blowout that covered her clothes, crib sheet & bumper, AND crib bars!!!

2 Years Ago Today.....

Ms. Lucy came home. Weird having a baby, and leaving that baby in the hospital. She never really felt like ours until she came through that door. And boy we thought that day would never come. It felt so good to have us all in the same space, and because of that I sometimes find myself hugging her just because she is here with us.

Spring Cleaning

Put Lucy in her room, and put up the baby gate so I could grab a quick shower. Came back to find this...
Guess she didn't like the way the drawers were arranged! What you can't see is that she also emptied her trashcan over the top of the baby gate!! What a turkey.

Off to a Rip Roaring Start!

So it is 4:30, and I find myself elbow deep in RID, and scrubbing a boy's head. The baby has just tried to drink the RID that was left in the measuring cup. The TV repairman is calling, and the dog is barking. How did I get here you ask? Well lets start at the beginning....

It's a Wednesday afternoon, and Lucy just finished a really hard PT session. I fed her, and put her in the rack. She has been playing around, but she has just gotten quiet. I made myself a cup of tea, and had just hit play on "Big Love". Then the phone rings. One of the boys has an unwanted visitor: LICE! I am speechless; I never thought this would happen to my kids (which is weird because I had it twice as a kid)! I call the other school to get the other boy pulled out, because I figure why go back later for him. I rush to the school, and get Boy 1 and then make him sit in the car while me & the baby go in to get checked by the nurse at Boy 2's school. Good news: we are all clean. Bad news: we must all use the shampoo for extra protection. Okay...I can handle this. Run into Walgreens, and grab shampoo. Then we hurry home, and I make Boy 1 go in the backyard so I can shave his head. Pause. Was it cold? Check. Was it raining? Check. Was it getting dark? Check. Were there dogs barking? Check. Swaztikas decorating the place? No. Okay so we haven't been transported back to Nazi era Germany, just checking.
Back to the point. Shaved him down, and then we all went upstairs to start the shampooing. After shampooing I read the part of the instructions where they want a special gel to get the nits out. Gel? Great! I make the boys sit in the bathroom, strap the baby in, and run back to Walgreens. Get back home in record time, and start the combing. Talk about a rough time, poor boy was crying & I was yanking. Released the boy, and headed to their room to strip everything down. Finally got done, just in time for the repair man to show up. Our DVR had exploded, and we needed to be able to see the Big Game (in retrospect I could have lived without it). He comes in the house to witness me suggesting loudly to the boys to do their homework, dog barking, baby crying for food, a pile of bedding that needs to get to the laundry room, and me looking like one hot mess (and not in a good way). He leaves, and Jake comes home just in time for the sausages to come off the grill (oh yes i did make dinner).
I kissed Jake grabbed my knitting bag, and sailed out the door. Because Wednesday is knitting class, and you can bet I wasn't going to miss it!

Postscript: we have all remained lice free, and Boy 1 was given a clean bill of health the next morning. Stuffed animals are still in captivity.

Christmas Wrap Up

Whew...that was a whirlwind of a two weeks. We had more birthdays, Castroville fun, Christmas Eve dinners, Christmas madness, a murder mystery game night, New Year's Eve with the siblings, watching bowl games on New Year's Day (boo ducks), and last but not least a new transmission. Feels good to be home, and I can feel the excitement and anticipation of a brand new year. Hope y'all enjoyed the holidays, and I look forward to seeing what the new year will bring all of you!
